Stargate - The Official MGM Site
Stargate productions center on the premise of a "Stargate", a ring-shaped alien device that created a wormhole enabling personal transportation to complementary devices located cosmic distances away. Under the control of the United States government, the Stargate discovered on Earth is kept a secret from the public. This allows for story lines to present no contradiction between depicted events and reality, and effect compounded by setting Stargate in present day, and depicting Earth accurately, with any unrealistic technology originating solely from alien civilizations. These extraterrestrial civilizations are typically more pre-industrial than scientifically advanced, and are almost always human. Together, this allows for stories predominated by human interaction in Earth-like environments, an unusual feature for a science fiction franchise focused on exploration of other worlds.
In the story, this is explained as being the result of alien interference in Earth's distant past - the concept influenced by the theories of Erich von Daniken. Man ancient mythologies are shown to the result of aliens who visited Earth posing as Gods by using their technology to give the impression of deific power. While some of these aliens had benign intentions, a race later known to Stargate-SG1 as the "Goa'uld" used Stargates to move slaves from Ancient Egypt to other habitable planets, simultaneously being responsible for Egyptian religion and culture. Following a successful rebellion, they fled Earth, and the Stargate was buried and forgotten until modern times, when the United States acquired it following and archaeological dig. Rediscovering the function of the Stargate, the galaxy is begotten as a source of knowledge, as well as threats, and the attention of the Goa'uld is drawn once more to Earth . . . Stargate on Syfy
Stay tuned for the third series to this amazing franchise : Stargate Universe, as a team of explorers, both military and scientists are stranded galaxies away from home on a Lantean Gateship.

Star Wars - The Official Site
Star Wars is a series of three trilogies written by George Lucas back in the 60's after lengthy study of myth and folktale in order to bring this classic story of love, destiny, the fright between good & evil, scoundrels, treachery, loyalty, betrayals, honor, courage and so much more.
The Original Trilogy follows Luke Skywalker, his Jedi Knight and mentor Obi Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia Organa (later found out to be Luke's twin sister!), a protocol droid C3P0 and a maintenance droid R2D2; as well as Lando Calrissian later in the trilogy. All of them team up to join Leia's Resistance against the Evil Empire, the Emperor and his Sith Apprentice, Darth Vader (who in turn turns out to be the father of both Luke and Leia, go figure). In the end, Darth Vader, who's birth name was Anakin Skywalker, kills the evil Emperor and brings balance to the force. The Prequel Trilogy follows the discovery of Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine as a slave boy, his apprenticeship under Obi Wan Kenobi who promised his master Qui-Gon Jinn who found the boy. All the while protecting Queen Amidala, who is really Padme Amidala as she was disguising herself as one of her own handmaidens, because the Viceroy of the Trade Federation, having been ordered by the Sith Lord and future Emperor to blockade the planet in a long term scheme to get elected Chancellor of the Republic in order to turn it. |
